In metropolitan Melbourne, we are experiencing a number of chronic stresses and acute shocks that threaten our city’s liveability.
A growing and ageing population, development pressures on ecosystems, and decreased social equality and cohesion are all occurring in the context of climate change.
We also face a future with more frequent and intense extreme heat events as a result of climate change. As our city grows, we need to be prepared for multiple shocks to occur at once. Climate change is undermining many of the assumptions used to plan and develop our city, and will exacerbate flooding in our urban areas, while lower annual rainfall will place further stress on our urban vegetation.
We are looking for new ways to help our city adapt, survive and thrive under the increasing pressures of the 21st Century, including climate change. That's why we are pledging to Take2.
