We are a locally based Group of Companies (Greater Melbourne) but we are globally minded.
The waste industry produces around 2.29% of all emissions in Australia - when electricity (and fuel use) accounts for 77% of all emissions - waste contributes about 10% of the remainder.
Our focus on reducing emissions is centred on organic waste diversion to composting. For every tonne we divert from landfill saves 0.93 tonnes of CO2-e emissions. For one customer last year we saved 260 tonnes of organic waste from going to landfill, that's a saving of 241.8tCO2-e. To illustrate this, if those emissions were generated by an average car (188g/km), we could have driven from the Earth to the Moon and back, and then around Earth 13 times.
Our pledge is to drive sustainability for our customers to ensure we maximise diversion from landfill. Through the recycling services that include commingled, mixed (and secure) paper, food organics, e-waste, batteries, a range of plastics and a suite of PIW materials through our liquid division company Eastern Liquid Services (ELS).
To drive higher levels of resource recovery we focus dedicated training and education resources at the Facility Services / Centre Management / Building Services level to assist in providing source segregation tips and tricks to boost levels of recovery.
Key organics tip : Avoidance is the best strategy - reduce CO2-e burden on waste (2.29%) and agriculture (13.8%)
