Our pledge

News Corp has a long term commitment to the environment through it's Global Environment Initiative (GEI).  In Australia, we have 1 Degree, our environmental sustainability initiative, which is now celebrating it's 10th year. 1 Degree is about the small steps that we can all take that add up to big change. The steps we've taken since we started have resulted in a 39% carbon footprint reduction, as well as significant reductions across our transport, natural gas, electricity and air travel. We are committed to continue to take more steps that add up to a sustainable future.

We pledge to:

  1. An annual reduction of our carbon footprint of 5%
  2. Maintain zero waste to landfill at owned print sites from 2016
  3. Achieve zero waste to landfill at owned office sites by the end of 2016
  4. Grow engagement of employees and the community with 1 Degree
  5. Work with suppliers and partners to advance environmental outcomes
  6. Source 100% of newsprint from mills whose forest management practices are certified (in compliance with the News Corp Paper Policy)
  7. Continue to lead in product stewardship through the Australian Publisher’s “National Environmental Sustainability Agreement”
  8. Actively evaluate opportunities to power our operations with cleaner sources of energy
