Glen Eira joins the fight on climate change

Glen Eira City Council has joined 34 other Victorian councils in making the TAKE2 pledge, demonstrating its commitment to taking action on climate change. Collectively, the 35 local governments represent over 60% of the Victorian population.

“We have already achieved considerable emissions reductions – we recognise that there is more work to do,” says Glen Eira Mayor Councillor Mary Delahunty.

“Addressing climate change requires a collaborative effort, and by making the TAKE2 pledge, Council is demonstrating our commitment to continue to be part of that effort.”

Glen Eira City Council has already set targets for reducing community emissions in its Environmental Sustainability Strategy, with more ambitious targets in place for its own operations. These form the basis of its TAKE2 actions.

Proving a big success is the council's annual program of energy efficiency upgrades and renewable energy installations. So far, solar systems with a combined capacity of nearly 400 kilowatts have been installed across eighteen council sites.

The council shared their pledge news on Facebook recently, and encouraged local individuals, businesses and community organisations to sign up and take part.
